Our Story

How it all started...

In 2006, Pastor Eug Breinig and his wife, Gwen, planted a church with one major objective in mind, that it would be a place where anyone and everyone would feel comfortable and know they “belong.” Since her inception, This Ain’t Your Mama’s Church, a community bikers’ church, has existed to share the love and hope of Jesus Christ found in The Word of God and His gospel, with everyone willing to receive this hope. TAYMC has consistently been recognized as “the church that accepts everyone,” by the citizens of Merced, and beyond. With Pastor Eug & Gwen at the helm, they fostered an atmosphere wherein everyone feels like they are at home at TAYMC. The bittersweet reality of Pastor Eug Breinig’s home going came far too soon for all who were experiencing the love of Christ, through his ministry and teaching.

Since 2011, TAYMC has continued to serve the biker community of the Central Valley, as well as others who have felt less than comfortable and accepted in more traditional church settings. Although the initial core group and founders of This Ain’t Your Mama’s Church began by focusing primarily on sharing the gospel with “bikers,” the love of Christ has transcended far beyond a specific subculture and dispensed His grace over a wide variety of people throughout Merced. Today, TAYMC is filled with people from all walks of life who come together to enjoy the riches of the God's grace, celebrate everything that Jesus has done and continues to do in and for them, and seek opportunities to share the good news with those who have yet to believe. While we still and will always love to ride and most us of find a way to go on a run or a ride together at least once a week, we are well aware that we are first disciples of Jesus Christ, and everything else is secondary. Our story is still being written, and we are blessedly stoked to witness and testify to our story as it works in HiStory. We invite you all to come and share in HiStory with us.

Expanding the vision...

This is where YOU fit in. The diversity of humans living in Merced and throughout the Central Valley make our gatherings here very exciting. Younger, older, impoverished, abundance, blue collar, white collar, motorcyclist, bicyclists, skateboarders, walkers, runners, couch potatoes, bus passes, various skin tones and melanin pigments, all of these things are only significant in recognition that they are the traits which God has given you. We are all travelers here, sojourners making our way through this age, seeking to discover and share the love of Jesus Christ that moved Him to give His life for each and every one of us. "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus..." WOW! Seriously. We are living in the humbling reality that because of the gospel of Jesus Christ, we are all on an equal playing field from now through eternity. Our objective is to live out this reality among one another, demonstrating that we really believe what Jesus has made true. Come see for yourself. Be amazed by the reality of what The Lord has done among and add your life to our TAYMC gumbo.

Where we are headed...

From bike blessings to bike nights, whether providing resources to the under resourced among us or gathering in celebration of the grace and abundance of Jesus, The Christ, we are working diligently to maintain our alignment to the will of God for our body and our city. This means that we will continue to be a body that takes risks in reaching the least of these, brings light in the darkness that many other Christian bodies dare not venture, and seeks the redemption of all those who have yet to be reconciled to Jesus. We want to exemplify what it looks like to be good stewards of the entirety of God's creation, shrewdly and wisely investing every resource that The Lord avails us, for His Kingdom's glory. We are ambassadors, prayerfully submitting to the reality of 2 Corinthians 5:20, 'Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, certain that God is appealing through us. We plead on Christ's behalf, "Be reconciled to God."' We are on a journey together, growing and submitting to the sanctifying power of The Holy Spirit working through us as a faithful expression of the body of Christ in our context. This adventure gives us a lot of latitude for experimenting, letting go of anything that inhibits where The Lord would take us. We will enjoy our freedom in Christ together to pursue the widows and orphans and whosoevers of our age, so that many will come to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. We are headed toward the strip clubs, the outlaws, the orphans, the widows, the prisoners, the addicts, the abused, the homeless, the broken, the least of these in every realm The Lord leads us, giving ourselves to the mission at hand, bringing glory to God and invitations to His eternal Kingdom, and sharing in the joy of our salvation and the power of the gospel wherever we find ourselves. If you want to live on mission with us, we welcome you to our party.
